I know this is a topic that so many people disagree over so I thought to myself as I was thinking of things to write about this week that this would be a good topic to discuss with others in the class. In my personal opinion, I think that if teachers can teach evolution that they should teach creationism as well. They are both faith positions and I think that if one is taught, then the other should be or even that neither should be taught. I don’t believe in evolution but rather I believe in creationism and that God created all living things in seven days. At my high school, many of my science teachers thought the whole evolution thing was not right so they didn’t really touch on it very much or at all. Some just made the comment that they weren’t going to teach that so they moved onto something else. To me, when I see how all organisms are made and how everything works so perfectly, it shows me God’s design of things which is amazing and perfect. I think that creationism helps us to understand how everything is under His authority. I just don’t think that these things happened by chance and that we evolved. We are each made special and with a purpose. To think that we have descended from a monkey totally denies the specialness of humanity and how we were created in the image of God. We are simply...apes with less hair. I was taught as a child that I was made in God’s image and I believe that He has the power to make everything and that He made humans. I know that religion is separated from school but I guess that I think scientific creationism is a legitimate science and I don’t know what it would hurt if it was also covered in schools.

I agree that if they teach one, then they should teach the other. To not do so would be denying people the whole truth. Pretty much what orginized religion does, it conveys one side of the truth and denies the other as even a possibility. We are not descendents of monkeys, because if we were then why are there still monkeys? One theory that I like to entertain is the fact that all life on this planet did not originate here. Maybe we are a huge experiment for an alien race, like a zoo or an ant farm. I believe god created an infinite universe and gave us free will. That way he can just sit back and watch instead of interfere all the time. Now every once in awhile he gets bored and kills tons of people, but the rest is all on us. I'm not trying to argue that god doesn't think of us like we think he does. Just saying there may be more to life than we think.
ReplyDeleteI really like this blog, because you really put yourself out there. I also, believe that God created everything and I agree that only teaching students about evolution is wrong. Like you said, both sides have to do with a person's beliefs, not facts. Why should students, that believe in creationism, have to sit through a lecture on evolution, when there is no lecture on what they believe in? It just doesn't seem fair. Also, when thinking about our universe and everything in it, I see how beautiful it is and know that there is a Maker to all of this.
ReplyDeleteI think you can be a creationist and still believe in the process of evolution. The two don't need to be mutually exclusive.
ReplyDeleteAs far as education goes, it has do with the separation of church and state for one thing...
Well i like to believe i have christian values, but i find the bible very confusing in so many ways. How can you put down the beleif that after millions of years we changedin some way(isnt it a fact that on average every generation gets a tad bit taller?) and then hold the position that a man (many beleave is in the sky)dictates everything that happens on earth, that a man was swollowed by a whale and lived, and that the strongest man in the world lost his strenth by the cutting of his hair, that a man in the sky just desided one day i think i am gona create men(all these examples is why i beleive the bible to be difficult i beleive these are all parables btw). honsetly the only way i could give you the best feedback to this blog would be to give me you deffenintion of god. (mine is the highest good in the universe which can never be known to man)
