This reminds me of the book and movie, "My Sister's Keeper." This was about a couple who had a little girl diagnosed with Leukemia at 2 years old and the best way to get a donor was to find an exact match in the family. It just so happened that her older brother was not a match so the mother and father decided that they should design their next daughter to be a perfect match to save their other daughter. I did not agree with this. I though it was unfair to the designed daughter to be put in the position that she was made to save her sister. It sounds like her parents only wanted her to save their other daughter. I know I would not want to have been designed and picked out to be the perfect child.
So many people think that this set-up of being able to design their children is so wonderful. I just think that messes with something that should not be messed with. I also don't know why people just can't be happy with what they have. Some moms and dads can't even have children in the first place and to me, this is just selfish and picky. We don't always get what we want but we should be thankful for what we have.
I agree Ashley everything happens for a reason. Why things happen is because that is the way god wanted them to be. Being able to choose the gender or genetics of their child is just wrong. Another reason why I say that is because every one of us is special and if you start messing with the genetics people are going to have the same genetics of other people. I know that is a long shot but think of people that have the same genetics and they have kids its just going to make things worse. Every kid should be special not engineered by their parents.

ReplyDelete"My Sister's Keeper" is a good example of that represents the humanity of this issue. I think there are different situations that might call for different responses. In other words, parents who are wanting to manipulate children so they have a superstar basketball player...OK, that seems excessive. In the situation with Kate/Anna, I think what we're most upset about it the way that Anna's rights were violated, no matter what the issue...
I completely agree with your argument here. I think that people shouldn't try to change what is meant to be natural. I also think that if parents want to be able to choose how their kids are going to look, they are being selfish and aren't really thinking about their child on the way. True, loving parents will accept their child any way it is.
