Before I came into this class I was definitely a little worried about how I was going to be doing. In nature, I am the type that hates to argue. I will stand up for what I believe but only when I really feel threatened. I am a peace keeper and the type that cries when people yell (I am not joking :P). I think this class is really going to help me in learning how to defend myself in a positive way. I am still not sure how I am going to do in this class but I am definitely ready for a challenge. I want to be able to provide an effective argument and in some cases, change peoples’ minds or at least, allow them to stop and think about what I am saying. We talked about this concept last class period and it really made me think. In some situations, you will not win over your audience that is against you but you may be able to allow them to think about something from a different viewpoint. This is my goal.
I am also concerned with finding sources for this type of writing. I don’t want to pick bias sources but instead, I really want to hit the jackpot in finding accurate and persuasive sources. This has been a struggle of mine and I really want to improve so that I can become a better writer since writing is something I really love. I can’t wait to see what the second of this half will be like when I am finally able to apply all of the new things I have learned. :)

This is a really good blog. I think its cool how you're stepping up to the challenge of writing out of your comfort zone. That's awesome. I was the same way in English 110, because I had no comfort zone. I pretty much didn't really try unless I liked what I was writing about. Then as I started to get more into the semester, I actually stopped caring about what I didn't like, and did pretty damn good in the class. I personally love to argue so I'm excited too get into the second half of the class. Just hang in there kid. It'll all come too you soon enough. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a thoughtful post and thoughtful comment (thanks, Chad). I can't wait to see what you think about your skills at the end of the semester. :)
ReplyDeleteI like how you are able to acknowledge that "argumentation" doesn't need to mean the kind of conflict that makes people cry.
Hey....I try to be helpful and give support too the people that deserve it. I thought it was a really good blog so I had to throw a comment on it. :)
